Swedish School Inspectorate weighs new oversight of Sigtunaskolan amid serious allegations

Skolinspektionen announced it may launch another inspection of Sigtunaskolan after recent police action and dozens of serious complaints.

Skolinspektionen previously inspected the boarding school and concluded that the administration's measures met required standards. A recent police raid and roughly twenty fresh reports of serious events submitted in the past week have prompted the regulator to consider a fresh supervisory review. Marie Axelsson, the agency's director general, said the review will assess whether the school's owner fulfills obligations under the Education Act, including preventive actions against further crises.

She warned that violations could result in penalties such as fines or a temporary closure. Authorities have identified five suspects linked to crimes at the school, with three students currently held in custody; the remaining two were released after questioning. Potential sanctions will depend on the findings of the upcoming inspection.
