Swedish Social Democrats vow to cut funding for independent schools
Education spokesperson Anders Ygeman said the Social Democrats will move quickly to reduce the school-voucher payments to free schools after the election.
Anders Ygeman, the party’s education spokesperson, announced that the Social Democrats plan to halt the leakage of funds through the school-voucher system. The party, which is campaigning on a ban on profit-making in schools and preschools, also intends to lower the standard per-pupil grant paid by municipalities to both public and independent operators. Additional proposals include a total ban on value transfers and a reform to limit primary-class sizes to twelve pupils per teacher.
