Swedish Youth Group Aurora Pushes Climate Lawsuit Forward After Supreme Court Ruling
The youth-led organization Aurora has taken over a climate lawsuit against the Swedish state, and the Justice Ombudsman says the case can now be heard in Stockholm district court.
Aurora, a climate-focused youth group, revived a legal challenge alleging that the Swedish government is worsening the climate crisis and endangering young people's health. After a 2025 Supreme Court decision barred the original claim because it was filed by individuals, the court indicated that an association could bring the case. Aurora stepped in to continue the litigation. In July, the Justice Ombudsman confirmed that the matter is eligible for trial in the Stockholm district court.
