Switzerland's Federal Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal investigation into alleged systematic transmission of network-traffic data from the National Intelligence Service (NDB) to Russian intelligence agencies via the cybersecurity company Kaspersky. The inquiry follows a 2025 SRF Investigativ report that a former NDB cyber employee shared classified material, potentially reaching the GRU and FSB, raising concerns for personal safety.
A prior audit by Lenz & Staehelin found no proof of large-scale data deletions, and earlier worries about data requests from internet providers were deemed resolved. Nonetheless, the new investigation notes lingering uncertainties about past cooperation with Kaspersky and whether offenses occurred. Defense Minister Martin Pfister announced an external review, inviting NDB personnel to use a confidential mailbox for tips, and highlighted organisational reforms planned for 2027. The case highlights ongoing cultural and communication issues within the Swiss intelligence community.
