Swiss hotels see record autumn occupancy as tourists favor cooler season
Swiss hotels report higher occupancy during the September-November period compared with previous years, driven by pleasant weather and longer lift operations.
The Swiss tourism authority highlights a growing preference for autumn holidays, pointing to comfortable temperatures as the chief draw. Hotel occupancy from September through November has risen consistently since 2018, and youth hostels report bookings roughly five percent higher than the same period last year. To accommodate demand, lift operators in regions such as Wispile, Muottas Muragl and Diavolezza are running later into November.
The sector is also seeking to attract more foreign visitors, while many Swiss travelers now choose the Alps over the Mediterranean during summer. The tourism board's "Travel Better" strategy aims to spread visitor numbers more evenly across the year.
Why it matters
The trend boosts Switzerland's off-peak tourism revenue and reshapes travel preferences.
