Swiss parliament moves to ease doctor confidentiality amid fake sick-note scandal
The National Council approved measures to curb bogus medical certificates, and the Council of States is set to consider a similar relaxation of doctor-patient confidentiality.
With a vote of 123 to 60, the National Council backed steps aimed at stopping the abuse of medical attestations for unwarranted leave. Employers have complained about rising costs from such practices. The FMH president, Yvonne Gilli, warned that loosening doctor confidentiality could seriously damage patient trust. The Council of States is expected to vote on the proposal tomorrow. Sick-leave days have risen from 6.3 per year in 2010 to 8.1 in 2025.
