Swiss road racer Mauro Poncini killed in Manx Grand Prix qualifying crash

During Tuesday's qualifying for the 2026 Manx Grand Prix, Swiss racer Mauro Poncini, 29, was fatally injured in a collision on the opening lap of the second session at the Cruickshanks section of the Mountain Course. The incident involved another competitor, whose identity has not been released; he suffered only minor injuries and is receiving care at Nobles Hospital on the Isle of Man. Poncini, a seasoned rider in the Supersport and Supertwin categories, was participating in his inaugural Mountain Course event.
He leaves behind his parents Florio and Manuela, sister Marzia, and girlfriend Sharon. The Manx Grand Prix Races released a statement mourning his loss and extending condolences to his loved ones. The Swiss Moto Federation also released a tribute, highlighting his passion and character within the motorcycling community.
