Switzerland cuts US export tariffs to 15% after intensive negotiations
Switzerland has lowered the tariff on most of its exports to the United States from a potential 39% to 15% following negotiations and investment commitments.
A year ago, Swiss exporters faced the prospect of a 39% duty on goods shipped to the United States, a rate far above that applied to European neighbours. Negotiations and pledges by Swiss firms to invest in the US led to a reduction of the tariff to 15% for the majority of products. Certain export categories now benefit from a separate, lower tariff regime introduced in July 2026. The change eases pressure on Switzerland's export-driven economy, which relies on a strong franc and shifting trade patterns toward the US.
Why it matters
Lower US tariffs protect Swiss exporters and sustain the country's export-driven growth.
