Switzerland updates sanctions list of individuals close to former Venezuelan leader
Switzerland has removed two names and added six new individuals to its list of people linked to former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro whose assets may be frozen.
Switzerland's sanctions office has refreshed its list of individuals connected to former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro whose assets could be seized, removing two figures and adding six others. Those removed are the wife of interior minister Diosdado Cabello and parliamentarian Jorge Arreaza, who heads a committee on amnesty for political prisoners. New entries feature Alex Saab, a former industry minister and businessman, along with his partner Alvaro Pulido Vargas, both recently expelled to the United States by interim President Delcy Rodríguez.
The Federal Department of one outlet said it can delete or add names based on coordination with key partners or to protect Swiss interests, without commenting on individual cases. The updated list now totals 41 names and remains in effect for four years, allowing foreign judicial authorities to request assistance in criminal investigations involving illicitly obtained funds.
Why it matters
The update shows Switzerland's ongoing role in enforcing international sanctions against Venezuelan officials and their associates.
