Sydney teen admits planning ISIS-inspired attack after online radicalisation
A 14-year-old from Western Sydney pleaded guilty to preparing a possible ISIS-linked terror plot after being radicalised on social media; he remains on bail awaiting sentencing.
A boy who was 14 when police raided his Western Sydney home in August 2024 has entered a guilty plea for preparing a potential terrorist attack inspired by ISIS. Court evidence revealed more than 40 extremist videos on his computer and a progression of radical content he first encountered on TikTok, after which he discussed possible targets like the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Marathon with online contacts. He admitted to “thinking about” an attack but did not acquire explosives or concrete plans, and now describes the group as “absolutely horrifying.”
After a short stint in custody he was released on bail, is being homeschooled, receiving religious counselling and intends to enrol at a local high school. The Supreme Court will determine his sentence next month.
