Syria hailed as new regional trade hub as President Al Shara promotes opportunities
President Ahmad Al Shara told the Arab Media Summit in Dubai that Syria has become a strategic trade corridor, especially as the Strait of Hormuz stays blocked.
At the Arab Media Summit in Dubai, President Ahmad Al Shara described Syria as a "great opportunity" for regional partners, citing new trade routes that bypass the blocked Strait of Hormuz. He said the country has moved from being known for illicit exports and conflict to becoming a stable link for energy and commerce between the East and West. Syrian officials have hosted Emirati business missions and met with Abu Dhabi Ports to explore development of ports, border points and free zones.
In May, Syria and DP World reached an initial $800 million deal to upgrade the port of Tartus, a project Al Shara praised for its strategic vision. He added that the recent removal of U.S. sanctions marks a rebirth for Syria’s economy and that the nation is on the right path.
