Syria urges deeper EU partnership for post-war reconstruction

Syria is seeking a more active role for the European Union in its post-conflict reconstruction, according to Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, who met with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. Both sides reviewed existing agreements and technical committee work, with the Syrian side emphasizing the need for tangible reconstruction aid. The EU responded by confirming the allocation of funds via its foreign policy instruments and by supporting mine-clearance operations.

Additional financing possibilities were mentioned, involving the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank for infrastructure initiatives. The EU has recently re-established ambassador-level representation in Damascus, signaling a shift toward normalising relations and supporting Syria's economic recovery.
