T&G launches premium Joli apple in Vietnam as part of Asian expansion

T&G Apples introduced its new Joli apple variety to Vietnamese shoppers, aiming to grow its presence in Asian markets.

T&G Apples announced the market debut of its newest premium apple, the Joli, in Vietnam, marking a step forward in its strategy to capture Asian export demand. The fruit is described as a large, red apple that is sweet, juicy and suited for sharing among families. Managing director Shane Kingston explained that the Joli reflects more than ten years of breeding, testing and cultivation before reaching consumers.

He pointed to the company's previous success with the Envy apple, which has surpassed a billion dollars in worldwide sales, as evidence of New Zealand innovation's value in global markets. Kingston said the premium apple category is expanding as consumers are willing to pay more for reliable quality, and T&G plans to raise Joli production in New Zealand by 2030, urging growers in areas like Marlborough to consider planting the new variety.

Why it matters

The launch expands New Zealand's premium fruit exports and could boost local growers and economies.
