Taguig prosecutors dismiss Vice President Duterte's perjury case against Ramil Madriaga
Taguig City prosecutors have thrown out Vice President Sara Duterte's perjury complaint against Ramil Madriaga, citing insufficient prima facie evidence.
In a detailed 19-page ruling released on September 10, Taguig City prosecutors dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte's perjury complaint against Ramil Madriaga for lack of prima facie evidence. The complaint originated in March after Madriaga’s December 2025 affidavit accused Duterte of involvement in the Philippine offshore gaming (POGO) scandal and the misuse of confidential funds allocated to the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.
Duterte later filed a second perjury complaint in August, citing new claims in Madriaga’s subsequent affidavit, including that P125 million of confidential funds was spent within 24 hours. The prosecutors concluded the allegations did not meet the legal threshold for conviction and recommended dismissal. The decision comes amid an ongoing Senate impeachment trial where misuse of confidential funds is a key charge against Duterte.
