Taiwan detains two Jiin Ming executives over illegal Chinese components in military drones
Two senior officials of Jiin Ming Industry Co. have been detained for allegedly installing prohibited Chinese chips and lenses in drones sold to Taiwan’s military.
Prosecutors in Taoyuan seized the offices of drone supplier Jiin Ming Industry Co. and its affiliates on Oct. 8, accusing the firm of inserting prohibited Chinese chips and camera lenses into drones delivered to the Taiwanese military. The investigation led to the detention of vice chairman and president Chien Hao-ting and business manager Chen Yang-cheng, who are suspected of breaching the National Security Act, submitting false business documents and participating in aggravated fraud involving three or more persons.
The Taoyuan District Court, citing one outlet-security concerns and risk of further offenses, ordered both men to be held for two months without visitors or contact, while other individuals linked to the case were released on bail. Jiin Ming, listed on the Taipei Exchange OTC market, confirmed the arrests and noted that Chairman Tsai Hsiang-feng has taken over duties, with normal operations ongoing. The company pledged cooperation with authorities.
