Taiwan police detain woman accused of shooting boyfriend's wife in Taipei
Police arrested a woman identified as Yi after she allegedly shot her boyfriend's wife, Chao, in Taipei, and also detained the boyfriend's husband, Chen.
A woman surnamed Yi was taken into custody in New Taipei City after allegedly shooting her boyfriend’s wife, Chao, as she left her residence in Taipei on Friday afternoon. Surveillance footage showed a suspect in a black down jacket and mask firing two rounds at close range, one striking Chao’s abdomen while the other jammed in the gun. The assailant escaped in a vehicle registered to Chao’s husband, Chen, who was arrested later that evening at a service area on National Freeway 1.
Authorities allege that Yi and Chen met online, lived together, and that Chen encouraged Yi to carry out the murder, even taking her to a shooting range in Tainan after buying a firearm online. Both Yi and Chen have been transferred to prosecutors on suspicion of violating the Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act and attempted murder, and investigators continue to look for the missing firearm.
