Taiwan pushes metaverse-driven healthcare to boost global medical standing

Health Minister Shih Chung-liang said Taiwan’s use of metaverse technology in medicine aims to raise the island’s international profile and competitiveness.

At a conference in Taipei, Health Minister Shih Chung-liang described the integration of metaverse and AI-enhanced 3D imaging as a milestone for Taiwan’s ICT-health synergy, promising to lift the country’s standing in the global medical arena. The event, organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, showcased applications ranging from surgical planning to physician training, with participation from Ho Chih-wei, ambassadors of five diplomatic allies, and local healthcare leaders.

Shih pointed out that Taiwan has donated metaverse-based medical platforms to partner nations and hosted training sessions for their doctors. IntelliGen Technology Co. announced a donation of 3D reconstruction equipment to domestic hospitals and pledged further collaboration with the ministry. Officials also cited recent legal reforms and the nation’s extensive health-data pool as foundations for more precise, technology-driven care. Representatives from Belize and major Taiwanese hospitals expressed optimism that the tools could shorten diagnosis times and reduce surgical risks.

Why it matters

The initiative could position Taiwan as a leader in high-tech medical care and deepen its diplomatic ties through health cooperation.
