Taiwan Restarts Visa Processing for Moroccan Citizens After Reciprocal Agreement
Taiwan has resumed handling visa applications from Moroccan nationals following Morocco's decision to accept Taiwanese visa requests again.
Effective Monday, Taiwan will once again process visa applications submitted by Moroccan citizens, the Ministry of one outlet said after receiving official confirmation that Morocco resumed accepting visa requests from Taiwanese nationals on Sept. 21. The reciprocal move ends a suspension that started in July when the Moroccan Embassy in Japan stopped reviewing Visa Confirmation Letter applications from Taiwan without explanation.
During the pause, Taiwan only processed visas for Moroccan applicants involved in government-approved special projects. The ministry noted that the earlier Moroccan halt had severely impacted bilateral exchanges and that Taiwanese passport holders must obtain Visa Confirmation Letters through Moroccan embassies abroad, as e-visas are unavailable. A staff member in Taipei’s Tokyo office verified the Moroccan resumption, but authorities are still seeking clarification on whether the restart applies to tourism only or also to other travel purposes.
Why it matters
The reversal restores travel and business links between Taiwan and Morocco, easing restrictions that disrupted bilateral exchanges.
