Tamil Nadu police file new POCSO case against Gem Group chairman R Veeramani

The Central Crime Branch of Tamil Nadu police has opened a new case under the POCSO Act against 84-year-old industrialist R Veeramani, chairman of the Gem group of companies, following a mother’s complaint that her minor daughter was sexually abused by him. Veeramani, already detained after an August arrest, faces additional charges alongside former employee Ganeshan and two others, Shanthi and Mahandra Simhan, who are also in custody until October 8.

The complaint was filed with an all-women Special Investigation Team in Chennai, which is now handling the investigation. The SIT, comprising senior police officials including Additional Commissioner P C Thenmozhi, will examine all evidence and has appealed for confidential tips from the public. Authorities emphasized that any information received will be investigated promptly.
