According to a report received at 1750 GMT, a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile, resulting in a fire aboard the vessel. Iranian semi-official Fars News Agency later said the incident involved a 2.5-million-barrel supertanker that was 8 kilometres off the Omani coast and was traveling on an unauthorised route.
