TAP and Klarna extend buy-now-pay-later service to four major markets
TAP and Swedish fintech Klarna have broadened their partnership, adding Spain, France, Italy and the United States to the countries where travelers can split ticket payments.
TAP Air Portugal and the Swedish payments platform Klarna have announced the expansion of their joint buy-now-pay-later scheme beyond Portugal to include Spain, France, Italy and the United States. The new arrangement lets passengers purchasing tickets on TAP’s official portal divide the cost into three interest-free installments, settle the full price at once, or, for expensive long-distance journeys, opt for extended financing options.
Inês Fiúza Marques, Klarna’s Country Manager for Portugal, noted that such flexibility is especially valuable for high-value tourism spending. João Frias, who oversees TAP’s payment strategy, said the collaboration is part of a broader digital transformation of the airline’s sales ecosystem, aiming to give travelers greater control over their travel budgets. The timing coincides with the winter travel season and holiday booking surge, periods that typically strain family finances.
Why it matters
The rollout gives travelers more affordable ways to pay for flights, potentially boosting bookings during peak travel periods.
