Tata Motors and Stellantis deepen alliance to co-develop vehicles for worldwide markets

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis have signed a definitive agreement to broaden their partnership, adding advanced technology and vehicle-architecture collaboration, with cars to be built in India for more than 50 global markets.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Stellantis signed a definitive agreement on Monday to expand their long-standing partnership, adding advanced technology and vehicle-architecture development to their existing manufacturing ties. Under the pact, Tata Motors will grant Stellantis access to its product technology and architecture, which Stellantis will combine with its own engineering capabilities in India to create vehicles for over 50 markets.

Production will occur at Fiat India Automobiles Private Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between the two companies. The agreement follows a February memorandum of understanding that explored manufacturing, engineering and supply-chain cooperation. Company leaders highlighted that the deal leverages India’s engineering capacity and Stellantis’ global market reach, aiming to increase export potential and strengthen India’s position in their worldwide production network.

Why it matters

The expanded alliance could boost Indian automotive manufacturing and increase global vehicle exports.
