Tea Party Patriots Action expands poll-watcher training across key swing states ahead of midterms
The Tea Party Patriots Action group is organizing large-scale poll-watcher and poll-worker training sessions in several battleground states before the upcoming midterm elections.
Tea Party Patriots Action, the largest Tea Party network, is scaling up its poll-watcher education program ahead of the midterms, scheduling a major in-person event in Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada, the day after the Republican National Committee’s convention concludes. The group also targets Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, building on prior sessions held in Ohio, Texas and Georgia. Founder Jenny Beth Martin said that the combined in-person and virtual effort could involve between 800 and 1,000 on-site trainees and up to 8,000 online participants, with the goal of clarifying voting rules, enabling real-time problem reporting and reinforcing public trust after the 2020 election turmoil.
The initiative is being run alongside organizations including the Honest Elections Project, Save Our States, Turning Point Action, American Majority, Heritage Action and the American Constitutional Rights Union. While the Tea Party group continues to push for the SAVE America Act, it acknowledges that other mechanisms are needed to safeguard election integrity. Both major parties are also bolstering voter-protection resources, with the RNC operating hotlines and the DNC creating a litigation team led by Dan Freeman.
Why it matters
Widespread poll-watcher training could influence how election irregularities are reported and perceived in closely contested races.
