Teacher and 10-year-old student found dead after water incident at Iowa state park
The bodies of 5th-grade teacher Hannah Jorgensen and student Ahmed Osman were recovered from Lake MacBride State Park following a water-related incident.
Authorities were called to Lake MacBride State Park on Tuesday after reports of individuals in the water near Coralville Reservoir. Sheriff’s deputies pulled the body of 24-year-old teacher Hannah Jorgensen at roughly 12:43 p.m., prompting a search for a missing 10-year-old student, Ahmed Osman. The child’s body was recovered the next day, confirming his death.
Both were participating in a “School of the Wild” field trip organized by Borlaug Elementary School. The Iowa City Community School District announced the tragedy via a Facebook statement, expressing deep sorrow and noting the impact on the school community. The incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
