Teacher killed and gunman dies by suicide in Lakhimpur Kheri school shooting
A 26-year-old teacher was shot dead inside Children’s Academy School in Lakhimpur Kheri, and the alleged shooter took his own life.
Around 11:30 am, Lakhimpur Kheri police were alerted to a shooting at Children’s Academy School in the Shahpura Kothi neighbourhood, under Sadar Kotwali jurisdiction. The 26-year-old teacher Nishat Fatima was in a second-floor classroom when the 28-year-old suspect Saud Ansari escorted her to a first-floor corridor, drew a country-made pistol and fired three rounds at close range, killing her instantly. The gunfire caused panic among pupils and staff; shortly thereafter Ansari turned the weapon on himself, also dying at the scene. Superintendent of police Khyati Garg confirmed both deaths and said the area was cordoned off, forensic teams were deployed, and senior officers including additional SP Pawan Gautam are questioning school personnel and reviewing security protocols, CCTV footage, and visitor procedures.
