Tech chief officers see compensation surge, outpacing other C-suite peers
Median pay for technology executives jumped 45.4% since 2021, reaching $2.6 million, a rise far steeper than that of COOs, CEOs, CFOs and CIOs.
Executive pay analytics firm C-suite Comp reports that median compensation for executives with technology titles rose 45.4% since 2021, hitting $2.6 million in the latest fiscal year. This increase of $809,587 outstripped the median gains of COOs (18.3%), CEOs (17.2%), CFOs (15%) and CIOs (9.2%). Boards are allocating sizable equity packages to attract AI expertise, exemplified by Hims & Hers granting incoming CTO Mohamed Elshenawy over $57 million in RSUs and Symbiotic offering James Kuffner a target equity value of $18 million.
Analysts say the CTO role has evolved from back-office management to a strategic engine for AI-driven business growth, prompting companies to compete aggressively for top talent. The trend underscores how generative AI adoption is reshaping compensation hierarchies within the C-suite.
