Tech Leaders Flock to Kazakhstan as New Innovation Hub Gains Momentum
Prominent tech figures including Balaji Srinivasan, Changpeng Zhao and Pavel Durov have announced initiatives and investments in Astana, positioning Kazakhstan as an emerging center for startups and AI.
Balaji Srinivasan, a former Coinbase tech chief and Andreessen Horowitz partner, announced the reopening of his Network School in Astana, calling the city a high-tech nation with a strong pool of young talent. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, during a recent visit, expressed admiration for Kazakhstan's large-scale technology and education projects and signed three memoranda with the government, including a study of a Kazakhstan-based stablecoin.
Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, visited the capital, lauded its economic ambition, and established both a regional office and an artificial-intelligence laboratory that will leverage local supercomputing capacity. Other notable voices such as venture capitalist Tim Draper and AI expert Kai-Fu Lee have also endorsed the country's potential. Kazakhstan has responded with digital-nomad visas, "Neo Nomad" permits, and tax breaks for qualifying tech firms, while deputy prime minister Zhaslan Madiyev emphasized the goal of building an ecosystem that nurtures talent and bold ideas.
