Tech workers flaunt limited-edition custom Tudor watches on social media

Silicon Valley employees are showcasing bespoke Swiss Tudor watches, many commissioned by employee groups, on platforms like Twitter.

A social-media thread featuring a custom Tudor watch for Google sparked a wave of similar posts from tech professionals across companies such as OpenAI, Palantir, Uber, Instagram and Facebook. Boris Power shared an OpenAI-branded piece inscribed with "Good Research Takes Time," and other employees revealed watches bearing small corporate logos and limited-run markings like "1/100." The watches are ordered by employee-run collector groups, which must meet Tudor's minimum order of 40 units and typically wait six months for delivery, paying full retail price.

The Pelagos model used by Google retails near $4,500, and auction results have seen some designs exceed $10,000. Tudor did not comment on the trend. The phenomenon reflects the growing role of luxury watches as status symbols among tech elites, alongside high-profile pieces owned by figures like Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman.

Why it matters

It shows how luxury branding and exclusivity are becoming status signals within the tech industry.
