Ted Lasso pulls strong audience for season four debut week

Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso delivered its largest premiere-week audience yet, with the new episode accounting for over a third of total minutes watched.

Ted Lasso’s fourth season premiered on Apple TV+ on August 5, and Nielsen data show it achieved the series’ strongest premiere-week performance to date. The episode released that day represented roughly 36 percent of the total minutes streamed during the August 3-9 period. This marks an increase of about 61 percent over the third season’s opening week in 2023.

While Ted Lasso led the Apple TV+ lineup, The Big Bang Theory remained the overall No. 1 title on Nielsen’s streaming rankings, and House of the Dragon held second place. Netflix’s My Life With the Walter Boys and Prime Video’s Sterling Point also appeared in the top-10 original series, and Paramount+’s Lioness returned to the charts after its season-three debut. Nielsen’s figures reflect viewing on television sets within the United States only.

Why it matters

The strong debut shows Ted Lasso’s continued appeal and highlights shifting viewer habits on streaming platforms.
