Teen Afghan suspects arrested after stabbing a German youth at Dielheim street festival

Police detained a 16-year-old Afghan and an 18-year-old accomplice after the younger stabbed a 17-year-old German in the back at a street festival in Dielheim.

At a street festival in Dielheim, Baden-Württemberg, a 16-year-old Afghan allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old German in the back after being prompted by an 18-year-old Afghan to arm himself. The attack occurred at a water-playground area and left the German youth with severe injuries that required hospital treatment but were not fatal. After the stabbing, the 18-year-old is reported to have pursued the victim and threatened his life, while the younger attempted a second knife attack on another participant, injuring a 19-year-old girl’s hand.

Both Afghan suspects were arrested about two weeks later, placed in separate detention facilities, and charged with dangerous bodily injury in two counts and attempted dangerous bodily injury, with the older suspect also facing a threat charge. The Heidelberg public prosecutor’s office and Mannheim police issued arrest warrants, and an investigative judge ordered their detention.
