Teen and Four Police Officers Injured During Blockade at Marseille High School
A 17-year-old student and four CRS officers were wounded when mortar-style projectiles were fired during a blockade outside the Marie-Curie lycée in Marseille.
At approximately 9 a.m. in Marseille’s 5th arrondissement, a group of about one hundred protesters erected a blockade in front of the Marie-Curie technological lycée, lining trash bins along the street to prevent access. The prefecture of police of Bouches-du-Rhône sent a company of CRS officers to restore entry for attending students. Confrontation escalated as the crowd, some with faces covered, refused to comply, and the police were subsequently targeted with mortar-type projectiles.
The exchange left four CRS officers and a 17-year-old student injured; the teenager sustained a head injury and was transported to hospital by emergency services. The marins-pompiers reported the student’s condition, while authorities noted the incident’s severity.
