Teen Archer Kang Defeats Idol Park to Capture Asian Games Bronze

Fourteen-year-old Kang Yeon-seo beat 29-year-old Park Jung-yoon for the women's individual bronze in archery at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

South Korean teen archer Kang Yeon-seo, 14, captured the individual bronze medal in the women’s compound event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, defeating teammate and former idol Park Jung-yoon, 29. Both athletes had advanced to the semifinals but lost, setting up a showdown for the bronze, which Kang won despite windy conditions that hampered Park. The two had previously earned a team bronze together with Park Ye-rin.

Kang, who grew up admiring Park, said the experience was rewarding and voiced ambitions to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where compound archery will debut. Park highlighted Kang’s talent and dedication, noting she learns from the younger archer as well. Fans and friends sent congratulatory messages, encouraging Kang to inspire more young archers.

Why it matters

The victory highlights a rising young talent in South Korean archery and underscores the sport's growing popularity ahead of its Olympic debut.
