Teen arrested after 19-year-old Five Guys employee wounded in Oxnard shooting

On Friday evening, a 19-year-old employee at a Five Guys restaurant in Oxnard was wounded when a gunshot rang out during a dispute involving a 16-year-old male and two other individuals. The victim, identified as Jonathan Vasquez J.R., a Ventura College student and recent high school graduate, was shot once and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities confirmed he was not the intended target of the shooting.
Oxnard police, supported by SWAT and a K9 unit, obtained a search warrant and apprehended the teenage suspect as he left his residence, booking him into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center for attempted murder. The cause of the initial confrontation has not been disclosed. Community members have started a fundraising campaign to assist the victim's family.
