Teen attacked with willow branches in Pilis park after refusing to surrender carabiner
A 15-year-old was badly bruised when several youths struck him with broken willow branches in a Pilis park after he refused to give up a carabiner on his keyring.
In a park that includes a playground in Pilis, near Budapest, a 15-year-old boy and his friend were attacked on Wednesday after a dispute over a carabiner attached to the boy’s keys. When the boy refused to surrender the item, several youths broke off branches from a nearby willow tree and struck both boys, leaving the teenager with extensive bruising and a large red handprint on his back. The mayor of Pilis, Attila László, reached the scene before municipal wardens, ordered the group to stay, and documented the incident.
He later urged a zero-tolerance stance on violence and demanded clarification from the Monor Police Station about the legal options for the victims, challenging the claim that the alleged offenders could escape liability because they are under 16. Police have said they will open proceedings, and the case may be examined for robbery or related offenses. The mayor’s public comments also targeted the alleged attackers’ ethnic community, adding a political dimension to the incident.
