Teen cleaning liquor-laden van reverses into pedestrians, killing one in Nalasopara

Investigators in Tulinj arrested a 16-year-old who was cleaning a Maruti Eeco loaded with legally purchased liquor after he reversed it into two women walking near Datt Nagar. The driver, Mahesh Naik, was standing outside a shop at the time, and the vehicle's owner, Rajesh Shah, was also taken into custody. Shreya Misal, 34, succumbed to head, back, waist and knee injuries, while Pragati More, 36, suffered serious wounds and underwent hand surgery.
Both women were domestic helpers from Nagindas Pada returning from work in Vasai. Their families have protested, accusing police of initial hesitation and demanding stricter action. Authorities are probing the purpose of the liquor transport and have applied sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act against the accused.
