Teen driver and two passengers die in fiery bus crash after nitrous-oxide binge

In March of last year, 17-year-old Jimmy Savory, already serving a six-month driving ban for prior offences, raced his Mercedes C180 Kompressor on the wrong side of a west London road while inhaling nitrous-oxide from balloons and smoking cannabis with three friends. At a railway bridge near Feltham, the car collided head-on with an H25 double-deck bus, became trapped beneath it and sparked a massive fire that took two hours to extinguish.

Savory, fellow passenger Star Tomkins, 17, and Harley Woods, 18, were killed on impact, while passenger Faye Chownsmith escaped with her life. Police and emergency crews struggled to free the victims from the wreckage, and an inquest at West London Coroners' Court confirmed the deaths were caused by the traffic collision. The coroner noted that, had Savory survived, he could have faced a life sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.
