Teen driver arrested after stolen SUV injures woman near Melbourne Marathon route
A 16-year-old was taken into custody after crashing a stolen white Ford Escape into a pedestrian outside Flinders Street Station during the Melbourne Marathon.
On Sunday morning, a 16-year-old from Dandenong stole a white Ford Escape from a Cranbourne South business around 2 am and later drove it through Melbourne’s CBD. The vehicle entered tram tracks on Elizabeth Street, collided with a woman in her 50s, multiple parked cars and street signs, then mounted the footpath near Flinders Street Station, an area blocked for the Melbourne Marathon. Bystanders helped the victim while police pursued the driver, who performed a U-turn and sped toward Southern Cross Station before being stopped on Beaconsfield Parade in Albert Park.
Ambulance Victoria transported the woman to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have arrested the teen and are treating the case as a criminal incident, not a terrorist act.
