Teen driver crashes into parked car, killing longtime Nobu Malibu chef

A 16-year-old speeding on Pacific Coast Highway struck a parked vehicle, killing a 51-year-old chef who worked at Nobu Malibu.

Around 7 a.m. on Saturday, a 16-year-old driver on Pacific Coast Highway was traveling well above the posted limit and veered across the road’s fog line, colliding with a parked black sedan near Carbon Canyon Road. Inside the sedan, a 51-year-old chef who had been with Nobu Malibu since its inception was found dead in the back seat after the crash sent his car into two additional vehicles. The chef had arrived early for work and fallen asleep in his car while preparing for a catering job in Santa Monica.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol responded, closing the two left lanes with a Sigalert. Nobu Malibu shut its doors for the day as staff mourned the loss, and detectives continue to investigate the incident.
