Teen driver denied bail after meth-linked crashes injuring multiple occupants
A 14-year-old who tested positive for methamphetamine and caused two serious collisions was refused bail by Hervey Bay Children’s Court.
In April, a 14-year-old operating a Mitsubishi Lancer under the influence of methamphetamine collided with another vehicle, injuring its occupants and resulting in a miscarriage. The Lancer then crossed the road’s center line and hit a Volkswagen Polo carrying a couple and their two-year-old child, causing injuries classified as grievous bodily harm. Police allege the teen was involved in a further crash on August 18, captured on mobile footage.
He was located and taken into custody on August 24. During a bail hearing, the magistrate rejected his application, noting the seriousness of the offenses, his flight from police, and the risk to the community. The youth remains in custody with a committal mention set for November 11.
