Teen Driver Saves 99-Year-Old from Burning Camper Home in Florida
A 16-year-old student from Marianna drove to a burning camper and rescued a 99-year-old man, who escaped without serious injury.
Avery Carmichael, a 16-year-old attending Marianna High School, spotted smoke while driving home from school and increased her speed to investigate. She discovered a camper home ablaze and an almost 100-year-old man unable to descend the stairs. Without hesitation, she drove into the driveway, entered the building, and lifted the man to safety.
The fire completely consumed the camper, but the elderly resident escaped with no serious harm. Sheriff Michael Bryant commended Carmichael for risking her life and highlighted her character as an example for others. Carmichael said she would act similarly in a comparable emergency.
