Authorities report that a 14-year-old student from Kishtwar died after a forced abortion attempt allegedly orchestrated by her teacher, Khalid Hussain, and his brother, Tariq. The post-mortem confirmed a five-month pregnancy and signs of an illegal abortion. Initial treatment in Chatroo failed, prompting transfer to District Hospital Kishtwar and then referral to Government Medical College Jammu for specialized care.
While being transported to Jammu, the girl’s condition deteriorated and she died near Batote in Doda. Khalid Hussain has been suspended from his post at a government middle school in Bamalpora, and both brothers face charges under the Pocso Act and related statutes. Police are probing possible involvement of the girl's family, healthcare providers, and the pharmacy that supplied the abortifacient medicines, while protests have erupted across Kishtwar demanding justice.
