Teen involved in drug-linked arson spree across three Midlands counties

A 16-year-old who worked for a dangerous criminal pleaded guilty to arson and criminal damage affecting seven properties in Westmeath, Offaly and Longford.

In Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court, a teenager who was 16 at the time of the offenses pleaded guilty to multiple counts of criminal damage and arson carried out in 2025. Acting under a notorious “Fagin-like” criminal, he helped burn four cars and target seven properties across Westmeath, Offaly and Longford as part of a campaign to enforce drug debts. Garda Kevin Lennon and prosecutor Cathal Ó Braonáin presented video evidence from the boy’s phone, showing the arson and discussions about using a gun.

One incident in Finea left a grandmother and her grandchildren terrified as their house and vehicles were set ablaze. Another attack in Edgeworthstown involved smashed windows and screams captured on video. Victims gave impact statements describing fear for their families and costly repairs. The youth remains on bail, with sentencing pending for the arson and separate firearms and €7,000 drug possession charges.
