Teen JEE hopeful found dead in Kota PG room, police say suicide
A 16-year-old student preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination was discovered dead in his paying-guest room in Kota, Rajasthan, with police confirming it as a suicide.
Police reported that a 16-year-old JEE aspirant who relocated from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, to Kota six months ago was found dead in his paying-guest accommodation in the Mahaveer Nagar-I area. Fellow students noted his absence after dinner and, after repeated knocks, alerted the PG operator, prompting a police response late at night. Deputy superintendent of police Manish Sharma said the body was taken to MBS Hospital for a post-mortem before being handed over to his family.
The family maintains that the student was not under any pressure and had no apparent personal problems, adding that he had told them about an upcoming exam but did not attend it. They also alleged that the coaching institute did not notify them of his absence. Authorities have listed the death as a suicide, and mental-health helpline numbers were provided in the report.
Why it matters
