Teen survives assault on walk to Alisal High School, suspect arrested

On Saturday, a 16-year-old high-schooler en route to Alisal High School in Salinas was sexually assaulted by a man who approached her from behind. The girl fought back and fled the scene, prompting a police response. Salinas Police Department reviewed video surveillance and gathered statements, leading to the identification and arrest of 30-year-old Jose Ramirez Zurita under a Ramey warrant.

Officers filmed Zurita being escorted to jail, noting his hoodie and tied-back hair. The attack is believed to be random, with no prior connection to the victim. Detectives have asked the public to provide any further tips, especially from those who may have encountered Zurita before. The victim’s identity remains confidential.
