Teenage Engineering CEO announces company will cease synthesizer production
Jesper Kouthoofd, founder and CEO of Teenage Engineering, said the firm will stop making synthesizers, including the OP-1.
Teenage Engineering’s founder and chief executive Jesper Kouthoofd told an interviewer that the company will discontinue all synthesizer production, including its flagship OP-1 that launched in 2011. He said the move is part of a broader shift away from music-centric products toward a wider design portfolio. The decision covers other devices such as the OP-XY, EP-133 and TP-7.
Kouthoofd noted that the company’s recent internal reorganization led him to conclude that synthesizers are not the core business. While the firm is known for collaborations with brands like Ikea, Nothing and Playdate, it has not provided a comment on the plan.
Why it matters
The shift could reshape Teenage Engineering’s market focus and affect fans of its iconic synths.
