Teenager Cavan Sullivan scores spectacular debut goal as US beats Mexico 3-0

Seventeen-year-old Cavan Sullivan netted a 35-yard chip in his first USMNT start, helping the United States defeat Mexico 3-0.

In his first start for the United States men's national team, 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan contributed mainly through high-pressing before scoring a stunning 35-yard chip in the 62nd minute against Mexico. The goal, which came after he intercepted a long pass from goalkeeper Raúl Rangel, gave the US a 3-0 lead and made Sullivan the youngest senior USMNT scorer at 17 years, five days. After the strike, the entire US squad gathered around him, with veterans Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson and Tyler Adams offering hugs and advice.

Coach Mauricio Pochettino highlighted Sullivan's balance in possession and defense, calling him a rare type of player. Sullivan also logged three tackles, three recoveries and won eight of eleven duels, underscoring his work rate on both ends of the pitch.

Why it matters

The goal marks a historic debut for a teenage USMNT player and signals a promising talent for the national team.
