Teenager dies in Wakefield hit-and-run; driver arrested on dangerous driving charge

A 16-year-old girl died after a suspected hit-and-run on Rooks Nest Road in Wakefield, and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Emergency services responded to a report of a 16-year-old girl lying on Rooks Nest Road in Wakefield at about 8.33 pm on September 29. The teenager was transported to hospital with severe injuries and succumbed to them on October 3. West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, led by Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Elly Buchanan, concluded the incident was a hit-and-run where the driver did not stop.

A 25-year-old male suspect was arrested in the early hours of October 5 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them via phone, live chat, or Crimestoppers. The investigation remains ongoing.
