Teenagers steal $220,000 G-Wagon, lead police chase, crash kills couple

Around 3:40 a.m. in Longport, four New Jersey teenagers stole a brand-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon worth $220,000 and began a reckless ride, traveling on the opposite side of the road. Law enforcement tracked the vehicle, and after a brief pursuit by officers in Hamilton Township, the teens vanished from view shortly before 8 a.m. The stolen SUV then slammed into a Hyundai sedan near Route 50 and Third Street in Mays Landing, propelling the car into a nearby gas station.

The collision killed the sedan’s two passengers, Robert Barr, Jr., 54, and Alice Stilwell, 67, a mother and grandmother described as beloved by the community. The teenagers emerged from the wreck with minor injuries, attempted to flee, but were apprehended soon after. They face charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, joyriding and eluding police, though it remains unclear which teen was driving at the time of the crash.
