Telangana clears 1.41 lakh private homes from 22-A registration ban

On Thursday, Telangana’s revenue administration directed that all private properties meeting statutory approval criteria be taken off the Section 22-A prohibited register, a step that could benefit around 1.41 lakh homes, plots and apartments across the state. The directive, issued by principal secretary Lokesh Kumar following a meeting chaired by deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, clarifies that only lands listed under the act—such as government waste lands, municipal assets and forest or tribal lands—remain blocked.

A senior revenue official explained that the shift from the old Dharani system to the new Bhu Bharati platform inadvertently flagged thousands of legitimate private holdings. The issue sparked political backlash, with opposition alleging the ban hampered property sales. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy pledged a quick fix, and revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said owners must present valid approvals and a registration link document. District-level committees headed by collectors will examine each case using revenue records and title documents to expedite eligible registrations.
