Telangana consumer panel orders Rs 44,500 relief after chit fund delays

Mobile shop owner S. Eashwar from Mahabubnagar subscribed to a Rs 25 lakh chit launched by Kapil Chits in May 2018 and was declared the winning bidder on December 15 2018, securing a Rs 15 lakh prize after forfeiting Rs 10 lakh. He submitted the required four sureties, including three taxpayers and a government hospital head nurse, on March 28 2019, but Kapil Chits claimed they arrived a month later and delayed payment until May 25 2019.

The Telangana State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission examined the company’s internal documents, confirmed the earlier surety date, and calculated the delay at over 55 days, deeming it a service deficiency. The commission rejected the company’s Rs 1,100 interest payment as insufficient, upheld a Rs 25,000 compensation, ordered a Rs 2,000 cost award, and required the return of a Rs 17,500 insurance deduction, bringing total relief to Rs 44,500. The order was issued on August 19 2026 in Hyderabad.
